Concept and choreography

Vlatka Horvat is an artist who works in a wide range of forms - from sculpture, installation, collage, and photography to performance, video, writing, and publishing. She has had exhibitions in a variety of international institutions, including the MSU Museum of Contemporary Art (Zagreb), Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna), PUBLICS (Helsinki), Hessel Museum-Bard Center for Curatorial Studies (New York), MARTa Herford Museum (Herford), Stroom (The Hague), Bergen Kunsthall, Witte de With (Rotterdam), PEER (London), The Kitchen and MoMA PS1 (both in New York City). In 2024 she represented Croatia with the project ‹By the Means at Hand› at the 60th Venice Biennale. Her works have been shown at the Aichi Triennale in Nagoya, the 11th Istanbul Biennial, and the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale. Her performances have been commissioned and presented internationally by institutions such as HAU Hebbel am Ufer (Berlin), LIFT—London International Festival of Theatre, PACT Zollverein (Essen), Kaai Studios (Brussels), KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen (Hanover), Tanzquartier Wien (Vienna), the Fondation Cartier (Paris), and others. Her artist’s book ‹To See Stars over Mountains›, which collects 365 works on paper, produced one per day over the course of a year, was published by PEER and Unstable Object in 2022, and the catalogue of her project at the 2024 Venice Biennale is available from Archive Books. Horvat was born in Croatia, moved to the United States as a teenager and spent twenty years there. She lives in London, Great Britain. For the 24/25 season, Vlatka Horvat is creating the production ‹Go With Your Heart› together with Tim Etchells for the main stage of Theater Basel.
