Valerio Tiberi was born in Spoleto. From 2013 to 2018, he was assistant lighting designer at Teatro alla Scala. His work includes opera, theatre, ballet and musical productions. Since 2014, he has been the technical director and lighting designer of the ballet gala ‹Roberto Bolle & Friends› and designed the lighting for productions such as ‹Waves›, ‹La Valse› and ‹Immemoria› at La Scala and ‹Beethoven Immortal Love› in Astana. He also worked on ‹Alice im Wunderland› at the Estonian National Opera and ‹Il Lago dei Cigni› at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. He created lighting designs for ‹Carmen› and ‹Idomeneo› directed by Matthias Hartmann, ‹La Gioconda› at the Teatro San Carlo and ‹La Vestale› under Lydia Steier at the Opéra national de Paris. He worked with Pierre Audi on ‹Simon Boccanegra› and ‹Orphée et Eurydice› and created the lighting for ‹Siegfried› and ‹Götterdämmerung› in Brussels. In the field of musicals, he designed the lighting for ‹Dirty Dancing› in London's West End as well as for ‹Charlie and the Chocolate Factory›, ‹Kinky Boots› and ‹Mary Poppins›. He has also worked on fashion shows for well-known brands such as Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and Ermenegildo Zegna. He has been teaching lighting design at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala since 2006. He won the Italian Oscar for musical theatre in 2015 and was honoured as lighting designer at the Spanish Premio Teatro Musical in 2024. In the 25/26 season, he is creating the lighting for ‹El barberillo de Lavapiés› in Basel.
