Pia Maria Mackert has been working as a set and costume designer for theatre and opera productions since 1993. Her work has taken her to Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Akademietheater (Burgtheater) in Vienna, Frankfurt Opera and Schauspiel, Dresden Staatsschauspiel, state theatres in Darmstadt, Hanover and Karlsruhe, theatres in Dortmund, Freiburg, Wuppertal and Bonn, Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, Schauspiel Graz, Nationaltheater Mannheim and Nationaltheatret Oslo plus many more. In 2014, she was nominated for the German theatre prize ‹Der Faust› in the Set Design category; and in 2021, for the Austrian theatre prize «Nestroy» for her design of ‹Die Jagdgesellschaft› at Akademietheater. In February 2016, Pia Maria created the set design for the first Axel Springer Award for Digital Journalism (which was won by Mark Zuckerberg). She regularly works with directors Lucia Bihler, Marie Bues, Kay Voges, Marcus Lobbes, Adolf Winkelmann, Hermann Schmidt-Rahmer and Wenzel Storch, to name just a few.
