Philippe
Philippe Quesne, born in 1970, French director, scenographer and playwright, is one of France's most internationally renowned theatre makers. The trained visual artist initially worked primarily as a stage and costume designer. His performance group Vivarium Studio, founded in 2003, consists of actors, visual artists, musicians and dancers. Over the years, he has developed a repertoire that tours worldwide. 'La Mélancolie des Dragons', 'La Nuit des taupes' and 'L'Effet de Serge' have already been shown as guest performances in Basel. In 2019, he staged the play 'Farm Fatale' at the Münchner Kammerspiele: it tells the story of a group of scarecrows who archive nature after the end of the world. In autumn 2020, the Centre Pompidou in Paris dedicated an artist focus to Philippe Quesne around this production. From 2014 to 2020, he was the artistic director of the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers near Paris. There, he regularly collaborated with sociologist Bruno Latour's study programme on questions of artistic practice and climate change. In 2021, he staged 'Cosmic Drama' at Theater Basel as a "courageous leap from the technoid to a playful age" (BaZ).
