Miren
Miren Urbieta Vega was born in San Sebastián, Spain, where she first studied clarinet and music education and then singing. She continued her training at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. In 2014, she was awarded the title of "Best Spanish Singer" at the Concurso de Canto Francesc Viñas and was honoured as "Best Young Singer" by the Premios Líricos Teatro Campoamor the following year. Her repertoire includes roles such as Mimì ('La bohème'), Liù ('Turandot'), Donna Elvira and Zerlina ('Don Giovanni'), Marguerite ('Faust'), Adina ('L'elisir d'amore'), Arminda ('La finta giardiniera') and Inès ('La favourite') as well as numerous zarzuela works such as 'Katiuska, la mujer rusa', 'Los gavilanes' and 'Benamor'. Engagements have taken her to the most important opera houses in her home country (including the Teatro Real in Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Ópera de Oviedo) and to conductors such as Evelino Pidó, Corrado Rovaris, Nicola Luisotti, John Mauceri, José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, Patrick Summers and Guillermo García Calvo. The rediscovery of Usandizaga's opera 'La llama', in which she took part in 2015, was accompanied by Deutsche Grammophon. In concert, she sang works by Beethoven ('Misa Solemnis', 'Ah, perfido!', Symphony No. 9), Dvořák ('Stabat Mater') and Mahler (Symphony No. 4), among others. As a sign of her connection to her homeland, she recorded the CD 'Ametsetan' with Basque songs with pianist Rubén Fernández Aguirre in 2018.
