Mikkel Ploug has toured in more than 25 countries and has led his own groups and performed as a soloist. He has worked as a soloist with the Royal Danish Ballet, the Danish Radio Big Band and the dancer/choreographer Tilman O'Donnell. Recently he has been working with the Danish Grawemeyer Prize winner Bent Sørensen, who has written music for him. Ploug's innovative approach to modern jazz guitar has been praised by renowned media such as Downbeat and Rolling Stone Magazine. He has released over 17 albums on prestigious record labels from the USA to Denmark. Mikkel continues to explore the territory between modern classical music and jazz, performing at both classical and jazz festivals and concert halls. Ploug is closely associated with the New York jazz scene and is known for his collaborations with renowned saxophonists Mark Turner and Loren Stillman. His solo album "Balcony Lullabies" was voted "Best Album of the Year" by Morningstar in the UK. He has also composed a number of pieces based on human language and is a lecturer on the harmonics of language.
