Stage and costume designer
Michaela Springer studied stage and costume design at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design under Martin Zehetgruber from 2000 to 2005. Before and during her studies, she worked as an assistant at Schauspiel Stuttgart and the Aalto Theatre in Essen. Michaela Springer has been working as a freelance stage and costume designer since 2005 and has designed the sets for productions at the Württembergische Landesbühne Esslingen, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Schauspielhaus Dortmund, Schlosstheater Moers and Den Norske Opera in Oslo, among others. Michaela Springer first worked with Marco Goecke at the Stuttgart Ballet in 2005 and designed the costumes for his ballet ‹Sweet Sweet Sweet›. This was followed in Stuttgart by further designs for Marco Goecke's ‹Nussknacker› (2006), ‹Alben› (2008), ‹Orlando› (2010) and ‹Black Breath› (2012), ‹On Velvet› (2013) and ‹Lucid Dreams› (2016). The collaboration also continued with his commissioned works for the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam ‹Der Rest ist Schweigen› (2005) and ‹Bravo Charlie› (2007), for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo ‹Whiteout› (2008) and ‹Le spectre de la rose› (2009), for the Ballett Zürich with ‹Deer Vision› (2014), for the Ballett am Rhein with ‹Lonesome George› (2015), for Gauthier Dance Stuttgart with ‹Nijinski› (2016) and for the Ballett am Gärtnerplatztheater Munich with ‹La Strada› (2018). Michaela Springer is also responsible for the costume and set design of ‹Der Liebhaber› (premiere 2021, Staatsballett Hannover) for the Swiss premiere of the ballet in Basel.
