Born in Switzerland, Maurus Gauthier received his basic training at the Zurich Dance Academy and the Hamburg Ballet School. His teachers include Kevin Haigen, Marianne Kruuse, Stacey Denham and Lloyd Riggins. In 2009, he was a Migros Culture Percentage scholarship holder and was subsequently accepted into John Neumeier's National Youth Ballet in Hamburg. In 2013, he was awarded the Bündner Kulturpreis by his home canton of Graubünden in recognition of his previous work as a dancer with John Neumeier's Bundesjugendballett and to promote his further work with the Gauthier Dance Company at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart. In Stuttgart, he has appeared on stage as a soloist in various roles, including the title role in Marco Goecke's world premiere ‹Nijinski› (2016). In the 19/20 season, he became a member of the Staatsballett Hannover under the artistic direction of Marco Goecke, who engaged him for Ballett Basel in the summer of 2025.
