Magne-Håvard Brekke, born in Norway, was a member of the ensemble of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz from 1989 to 1995 after studying at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in the former GDR. There he was involved in productions by many GDR directors, including Frank Castorf and Andreas Kriegenburg. His first encounter with Christoph Marthaler also took place at the Volksbühne with ‹Murx den Europäer› in 1993. This was followed by another permanent engagement under the directorship of Leander Haussmann at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, where he began a long-term collaboration with Dimiter Gotscheff. His collaboration with Christoph Marthaler continued with ‹Bekannte Gefühle, gemischte Gesichter› at the Volksbühne in 2016, ‹Im Namen der Brise› at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg in 2023, ‹Das Weinen (Das Wähnen)› at the Schauspielhaus Zürich in 2020 and ‹Universe, Incomplete› at the Ruhrtriennale in 2018. He has also appeared in various international film productions. His collaboration with French film director Mia Hansen-Løve has been particularly formative for him. ‹Tiefer Graben 8› is his first production at Theater Basel.
