Lex Hymer Stage and costume design

Lex Hymer is the name under which Selma Lindgren, Ella Steinbach and Xandi Vogler design and realise stage and costume designs. The Norwegian-German-Austrian trio has been working in various constellations at theatres and opera houses as well as in the independent scene since 2018. They studied scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Anna Viebrock and Nina von Mechow. Lex Hymer works closely with the director Pablo Lawall and the author duo Sokola//Spreter. With ‹Polar›, they won the young talent competition ‹Einfach Radikal› at Vienna's Drachengasse theatre in 2022. The production ‹Josefine die Sängerin oder das Volk der Mäuse› was invited to the Prague Theatre Festival of German Language in 2022 in addition to a guest performance at TD Berlin. In 2023, they were nominated for ‹Der Grund. Eine Verschwindung›,, which premiered at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, was awarded the Reinhold Otto Mayer Prize for outstanding works in the field of performative arts. He has also collaborated with the director Lea Marlen Balzer and with Leo Meier and Emil Borgeest. With director Benedikt Arnold, Lex Hymer is in the final of the European Opera Directing Prize with ‹Hoffmanns Erzählungen› in Geneva 2025. He has also worked at the Vienna State Opera, the Semperoper Dresden, the Münster Theatre, the Nestroyhof Hamakom Theatre and with the independent Berlin opera company novoflot. ‹Gesellschaft mit besonderer Hingabe (GmbH)› is her first work at Theater Basel.
