Kay
Kay Kysela, born in 1989 in Aarberg (BE), is an actor and trained nurse. Before deciding to pursue a career as an actor, he was an acrobat in the martial arts acrobatic comedy group Swisstricks. He also gave workshops in stage combat and tricking. From 2012 to 2016, he studied acting at the Bern University of the Arts. He was already given various guest roles during his training, such as in Patrick Gusset's production of ‹Othello› and in ‹Frankenstein› directed by Philip Stölzl at Theater Basel. From 2016 to 2019, he was permanently employed at the St. Gallen Theatre, where he worked with directors such as Barbara-David Brüesch, Jonas Knecht and Bettina Bruinier. He was then a permanent member of the ensemble at Schauspielhaus Zürich until 23/24. Here he played under the direction of Nicolas Stemann in ‹Riesenhaft in Mittelerde› (invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen 2024), ‹Biedermann und die Brandstifter› and ‹Schneewittchen Beauty Queen›, among others. He has also worked with directors including Leonie Böhm (Leonce and Lena), Christiane Jatahy (Before the Sky Fall) and Suna Gürler (I chan es Zundhölzli azünde). In addition to his theatre work, he also shoots for film and television. He has appeared in ‹Tatort›, ‹Wilder›, ‹Kommissarin Heller›, ‹Die Beschatter› and the feature film ‹Weglaufen geht nicht›.
Kay can still be seen in ‹Biedermann und die Brandstifter› at the Schauspielhaus Zurich in the 24/25 season. He is part of the Basel company at Theater Basel and is playing Möbius in ‹Die Physiker›, ‹Chroniken vom Mars›, ‹Die Krume Brot› and ‹Es wär so schade wenn du das verpasst› this season.
