Julio César Picos, Asturian pianist and conductor, began his training at the conservatories of Gijón and Oviedo and later studied at the Opera Studio of the Palau de Les Arts in Valencia with Jocelyn Dienst-Bladin, Roger Vignoles and Alberto Zedda. His collaboration with José Miguel Pérez-Sierra was decisive for his development. He started as a répétiteur at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo in 2001 and became an assistant at the Oviedo Opera Festival in 2013. He works with institutions such as Teatro de la Zarzuela and Teatro Real as well as international theatres such as Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels and Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg. He made his conducting debut in 2012 with the Oviedo Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, he has conducted the Navarra Symphony Orchestra, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, the Orchestre National de Metz Grand Est, Virtuosi Brunensis and the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2019, he made his opera debut with ‹La Cenerentola› in Catania. He recently conducted ‹Parade Sauvage› with works by Britten and Berlioz, ‹Die Geschichte vom Soldaten› by Stravinsky and ‹La Tabernera del Puerto› in Madrid and at the Jan Kiepura Festival. His upcoming projects include ‹Bohemios› in Madrid. In the 25/26 season, he will conduct performances of ‹El barberillo de Lavapiés› at Theater Basel.
