Joyce
Bastos Mezzo-soprano

São Paulo-born mezzo-soprano Joyce Bastos moves between classical music and Brazilian popular music. She studied both genres at the Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo and was a scholarship holder of the São Paulo State Youth Choir. She has participated in several international festivals and training programmes, including the Casa de Mateus Festival (Portugal, 2019), where she worked with María Cristina Kiehr, Jacques Ogg, Enrico Gatti and Fábio D'Onofrio and performed in the final concert. In 2020, she took part in the Curitiba Music Festival, worked with soprano Sophie Daneman and attended masterclasses with Adam Nielsen and Mary Birnbaum (Juilliard School, New York). She received further inspiration in a masterclass with Anne Sofie von Otter. In 2025, she completed her Bachelor's degree in singing at the Hochschule für Musik Basel under the direction of Isolde Siebert and recently began her Master's degree at the same institution, specialising in classical singing with a minor in jazz. Joyce Bastos currently lives in Basel, where she is developing a multi-faceted artistic career between classical music and the sounds of her homeland. She is a member of the Coletivo Raízes do Samba, the duo Joyce Bastos & Marcelo Figueiredo and the project Joyce Bastos & Lukas Gernet and performs regularly in Switzerland and its neighbouring countries. She is making her debut at Theater Basel as Tisbe in ‹La Cenerentola› in collaboration with OperAvenir.
