Hilke Altefrohne was born in Osnabrück and grew up in Nordhorn. She studied Fine Arts at the HBK Braunschweig for two years and attended the Westphalian Drama School in Bochum. Permanent engagements have taken her to Kassel, the Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin and most recently to the Schauspielhaus Zürich. She has worked with Antú Romero Nunes, Peter Kastenmüller and Armin Petras for many years. In 2004, Hilke Altefrohne was voted Young Actress of the Year by the trade journal Theater heute for their work together. Other important works have been created with Sebastian Nübling, René Pollesch, Herbert Fritsch, Alvis Hermanis, Jan Bosse, Karin Henkel and Barbara Frey, among others. She also works for film and television and has appeared in ‹Tatortreiniger›, among others. Hilke Altefrohne has lived in Berlin as a freelancer since 2018. She has performed at the Berliner Ensemble, Deutsches Theater Berlin and Schauspiel Köln. She has already appeared at Theater Basel in ‹Die Mühle von St. Pain›, directed by Antú Romero Nunes. This season she is playing Amanda in Tennessee Williams' ‹Die Glasmenagerie›.
