Harpa Ósk Björnsdóttir is a lyric colouratura soprano from Kópavogur, Iceland. She began her studies at the Reykjavik Institute of Singing and Vocal Arts and at the Icelandic University of the Arts. She then moved to Germany, where she first studied at the University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig and then at the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding and the University of Music and Theatre in Munich. She completed masterclasses with Nicola Beller Carbone, Stefano Gibellato, KS Falk Struckmann, Flavio Benedetti, Leonard Martynek and André Callegaro, among others. She was a finalist in the Swedish Wilhelm Stenhammar Competition, a prizewinner in the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and University of the Arts Young Talent Competition, «Voice of the Year» in the Vox Domini Competition and a scholarship holder of Rotary, Ingjaldssjóður, Landsbankinn, Ýlir and the memorial funds for Jón Stefánsson, Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson and Ruth Hermann, among others. She sang Un pastore ‹Tosca› at Oper Leipzig, Königin der Nacht ‹Die Zauberflöte› at Alte Spitzenfabrik Grimma, Taumännchen and Sandmännchen ‹Hänsel und Gretel› at Oper Halle, Titania ‹Ein Sommernachtstraum› in Leipzig as well as Vagaus ‹Juditha Thriumphans› and Jen ‹4:48 Psychose› at Prinzregententheater Munich. In March 2024 she sang the title role in J. C. Bach's opera ‹Zanaida› with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra. She has been a member of OperAvenir at Theater Basel since August 2024.
