Günter Papendell, baritone, began his musical career with the Augsburg Cathedral Boys' Choir. After studying at the music academies in Cologne and Munich, he was engaged at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen, from where he moved to the Komische Oper Berlin in 2007, where he is still a member of the ensemble today. Guest appearances have taken him to the Aalto Theatre in Essen, Nuremberg, Weimar, Bremen, Vienna, Munich and Basel, as well as to the Edinburgh International Festival. His repertoire includes the title roles in 'Don Giovanni', 'Jewgeni Onegin', 'Gianni Schicchi', 'Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria' as well as Golaud in 'Pelléas and Mélisande', Jason in Aribert Reimann's 'Medea', Kovalev in 'Die Nase', Germont in 'La traviata', Ford in 'Falstaff', Figaro and Count Almaviva in 'Le nozze di Figaro', the Forester in 'The Cunning Little Vixen', Orest in 'Elektra', Robert Storch in 'Intermezzo' and Thomas Hauser in 'Les Bienveillantes' by Héctor Parra, which he sang in the world premiere at Opera Vlaanderen Antwerp. Further highlights were his role debut at the Bavarian State Opera as Wiedehopf in Braunfels' opera 'Die Vögel' and Jean-Charles in Henze's 'Das Floss der Medusa'. Current engagements of the artist, who was appointed Berlin Kammersänger in 2022, include Holländer ('Der fliegende Holländer'), Figaro and Besenbinder Peter ('Hänsel und Gretel') at the Komische Oper Berlin as well as Gunther ('Götterdämmerung') with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and at Theater Basel.
