Musical direction
Gregor Bühl studied conducting in Düsseldorf. His first conducting engagements took him to the Hamburg State Opera as assistant to Gerd Albrecht, before he moved to the Hanover State Opera as principal conductor in 1995. There he conducted the German premiere of Manfred Trojahn's ‹Orest› and the successful production of ‹La traviata› staged by Benedikt von Peter. He has conducted works such as ‹La Cenerentola›, ‹Rigoletto›, ‹Pique Dame› and ‹Tosca› at the Hamburg State Opera and the Stuttgart State Opera. Further engagements have taken him to the Canadian Opera Company, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Opéra National de Montpellier, the Semperoper Dresden, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Leipzig Opera, among others. He celebrated a highly acclaimed success with Wagner's ‹Ring des Nibelungen› at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. In concert he has worked with the radio symphony orchestras of Berlin, Hamburg and Hanover, the Finnish and Danish radio orchestras, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Düsseldorfer Sinfoniker, the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. His recording with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra of works by Walter Braunfels was honoured with the German Record Critics' Award. From 2016 to 2022, he taught as a professor at the Oslo Opera Academy. He is once again working with Benedikt von Peter on the revival of ‹La traviata› at Theater Basel.
