Gorka Culebras was born in Madrid, studied dance and musical theatre in his home-town and works internationally as a dancer and performer. Since 2018, he has been working in the field of opera at Teatro Real in Madrid with the production of ‹Aida›, directed by Hugo de Ana. Also in 2018, he participated in ‹Dreams of a Traveller› at National Theatre in Bahrain, an interdisciplinary project to close the festival ‹Muharraq - Cultural Capital of the Arabic World› with director José Antionio Ruiz and choreographer Patrick de Bana. He regularly works on opera productions at leading theatres. For some time now, he has been collaborating with directors Robert Carsen (‹Idomeneo›, ‹Das Rheingold› and ‹Die Walküre› at Teatro Real de Madrid) and Hugo de Ana(‹Aida› am Teatro Real und ‹Carmen› and ‹Il barbiere di Siviglia› an der Arena di Verona, all choreographed by Leda Lojodice). Gorka has already collaborated with Christof Loy, including in his production of ‹Rusalka› (2020), which premiered at Teatro Real in Madrid and has been performed at Semperoper Dresden since June 2022, and in his production of ‹Die Nacht vor Weihnachten› (2021) at Oper Frankfurt, which is set to be named production of the year by the international opera magazine, Opernwelt.
