Georg Schütky studied music theatre directing at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and assisted Peter Konwitschny, Tatjana Gürbaca, Vera Nemirova, Tilman Knabe and Lorenzo Fioroni, among others. He worked for two seasons as director at the Staatstheater Mainz. His productions have taken him to the Staatsoper Berlin, Haus der Berliner Festspiele, Parkaue Berlin, Oper Graz, Next Liberty Theatre Graz, Philharmonie Berlin, HAU2, Oper Leipzig as well as to various festivals such as the Dramtiker:innenfestival at Schauspielhaus Graz and Steirischer Herbst. In 2018, he designed the official ceremony for the Day of German Unity of the Federal Republic of Germany, broadcast live on ARD. His work is characterised by active inclusion and his engagement with amateur actors, choirs and collectives, including 'Originale' at the Berlin State Opera and the village operas 'Die Nacht von Allerheiligen' and 'Regina', for which he received the Styrian State Culture Prize in 2022. He is a research fellow of the Berlin Senate and the Fonds Darstellende Künste. He recently staged the first inclusive version of 'Beggar's Opera' at Oper Graz and Rameau's 'Zoroastre' at Theater Münster. With the children's opera house at the Staatsoper Berlin, he dedicated himself to the young Mozart in 'Einfach Mozart'. The world premiere of 'Wie geht's wie stehts' in cooperation with the Munich Biennale für neues Musiktheater will bring him to Theater Basel for the first time in 2024.
