Gabriella Schmidt trained as an actress at the Oxford School of Drama, after initially training as a ballet dancer at the Central School of Ballet and touring internationally. As a versatile actress, she has made a name for herself particularly in the field of physical theatre, classical plays and new drama. She has performed at prestigious venues such as Southwark Playhouse, The King's Head Theatre, The Old Vic Tunnels, Soho Theatre and Riverside Studios. In addition to the acclaimed production of ‹Halbwelt Kultur› at Jermyn Street Theatre, she has appeared in two productions, both of which won awards from Time Out culture magazine. In May 2022, she played Jules in Stephanie Martin's award-winning play ‹Juniper and Jules› at Soho Theatre - a role that earned her rave reviews, including four stars in The Guardian and The Stage. As a member of the political theatre collective Populace, she has co-devised several plays, including the ongoing research project ‹Protest›, which began at the Ovalhouse. Her most recent film, ‹X›, is currently in post-production. Gabriella Schmidt is a movement coach at Theater Basel for Simon McBurney's production of ‹Die Zauberflöte›, which she has already accompanied for English National Opera.
