Daniel Moreira, born in 1984, is a German-Brazilian composer and conductor of contemporary music. After studying physics, he studied composition and music theory in Germany (Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and Musikhochschule Stuttgart), the USA (University of Texas at Austin) and Brazil (Universidade Federal do RS). As a conductor, he studied in the USA with Robert Carnochan, in Germany with Lorenz Nordmeyer and in Italy with Michael Luig. His compositions have been honoured several times, including in 2012 at the German Music Competition, with the Stuttgart Composition Prize, at the BNI Commission Competition, in 2011 with the DAAD Prize, as a finalist at the Gaudeamus Music Prize, with a scholarship from the Mozart Foundation, 2nd prize at the Salvatore Martirano Award and with a residency scholarship at the Künstlerhaus Salzwedel. The works have been performed at renowned festivals and venues, including the ECLAT Festival, the Gaudeamus Music Week, the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music, the Philharmonie Essen, the cresc... Biennale, the ISCM World New Music Days, the Akademie der Künste Berlin, the Wet Ink Concert Series, the Donaueschinger Musiktage Off programme and the Festival Contemporâneo RS. Daniel Moreira is a lecturer in composition at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media.
