Blanca
Blanca Li is a choreographer, film director, dancer and actress. A fan of novelty, hybridisation and constant renewal, she is inspired by a wide range of expressions, from flamenco to classical ballet and urban dance.
Born in Granada, Spain, she studied at the Martha Graham School while attending the schools of Alvin Ailey, Paul Sanasardo and the Clark Center. She lived in Spanish Harlem where she founded a flamenco rap group, Las Xoxonees. Back in Spain, she founded her first contemporary dance company in Madrid, which was selected for the programme of the World Expo in Seville. Blanca Li has been based in France since 1992 and founded her company in Paris in 1993. In 1998 she opened her own dance studio in Paris, Calentito Studios. The fusion of disciplines and genres is often found in her creations, as well as a very Latin American sense of humour. 'Macadam Macadam', a choreographic hip-hop show, opened the Suresnes Cités Danses Festival in 1999. From Avignon to the Opéra-Comique in Paris to the USA, this show became a reference in the genre and won the Crystal Ball in the Best Opera/Ballet category in 2007. Her one-woman show 'Zap! Zap! Zap! was presented in Chaillot and then in New York as part of the France Moves Festival.
Blanca Li created 'Le Bal de Paris', an original immersive show that involves ten spectators and dancers at a time in a ball that takes place in a virtual reality universe. This show was awarded the Lion for the best VR experience at the Venice International Film Festival.
