Knabenkantorei Basel
Choir
The Knabenkantorei Basel (KKB) is a choir school for boys and young men aged between six months and 26 years. The programme ranges from parent-child singing through various course levels to a concert choir with boys' and men's voices. The repertoire includes both sacred and secular literature and ranges from a cappella works from the Renaissance and the great oratorios of the Romantic period to folk songs and popular catchy tunes. The KKB performs several times a year in the Basel region, takes part in productions at Theater Basel and accepts invitations to renowned music festivals in Switzerland and abroad. As a musical ambassador for Switzerland and the cultural city of Basel, the KKB gives concerts all over the world. Recent concert tours have taken the choir to England, Slovenia, Lithuania, Sweden, Finland, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, the Czech Republic and Poland. In autumn 2023, the young male voices of the KKB were crowned European champions in the ‹Musica Sacra with Accompaniment› category at the European Choir Games (ECG) and won the Grand Prix of Nations in the same category. The high standard of the KKB is guaranteed by a qualified and committed music education team. Young singers are prepared for singing in the concert choir in age-appropriate courses. Even after joining the concert choir, all singers receive individual support and encouragement. Numerous former KKB singers have gone on to pursue professional careers as musicians. Since 2017, the KKB has been under the overall artistic direction of Oliver Rudin, who himself went through the KKB choir school and sang in the concert choir for more than 10 years.
