Anne Jung

Anne Jung is a choreographer and former stage dancer. Her choreographic career began in 2016 with her first work for the young choreographers' programme ‹Switch› with dancers from the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) in The Hague. This was followed by further world premieres in Frankfurt (2017, 2019), 2021 for the Louisville Ballet in Kentucky and 2024 for the Graz Ballet, the Poznań Opera Ballet and the Augsburg Ballet. Before devoting herself increasingly to choreography, Anne Jung worked as a dancer for renowned companies, including Ballett Mainz (2009-2013), Nederlands Dans Theater (2014-2017) and Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company (2017-2022). Collaborations with internationally renowned choreographers such as Marco Goecke, Jacopo Godani, William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Mats Ek, Jiří Kylián, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot and Pascal Touzeau have had a lasting impact on her artistic vision and her own choreographic signature. Anne Jung originally comes from a rhythmic gymnastics background and took part in international competitions as a junior gymnast, including European and World Championships and the Olympic Games. She then completed her professional dance training at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. Anne Jung's choreographic works are characterised by physical precision, musical sensitivity and a complex movement language that understands the body as malleable material. As part of the ‹New Works› series, Anne Jung will be presenting ‹Ephémère› to Basel audiences for the first time in the 25/26 season.
