Bass-baritone

The bass-baritone Andrew Murphy comes from Dublin, Ireland. From 1986 to 1989, he was a member of the opera studio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. After permanent engagements in Ulm and Saarbrücken, Andrew Murphy moved to the Theater Basel in 2001, where he has been a member of the ensemble ever since. His broad repertoire includes the roles of Leporello in ‹Don Giovanni›, Figaro and Doctor Bartolo in ‹Le nozze di Figaro›, the title role in ‹Don Pasquale›, Schaunard in ‹La bohème›, Sixtus Beckmesser in ‹Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg›, Golaud in ‹Pelléas et Mélisande›, Méphistophélès in ‹La damnation de Faust› and Don Alfonso in ‹Così fan tutte›. His most recent roles at Theater Basel include Alberich in ‹Das Rheingold›, Seneca in ‹L’incoronazione di Poppea›, Snobby in Christoph Marthaler's ‹Tiefer Graben 8›, Dottor Grenvil in ‹La traviata› and Un Mandarino in ‹Turandot›.
