Alexander Djurkov
Venezuelan costume designer Alexander Djurkov Hotter initially studied architecture at the Technical University of Berlin before completing an apprenticeship as a tailor in Düsseldorf in 2011. He then worked intensively with the renowned costume designer Moidele Bickel, who became his most influential and valuable artistic mentor. This was followed by assistantships at the Schauspielhaus Frankfurt, the Salzburg Festival, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and Den Norske Opera & Ballett in Oslo in productions by directors Luc Bondy, Calixto Bieito, Dieter Dorn and Shirin Neshat, among others. His first own works took him to the Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Akademietheater Munich and the IST Festival Amsterdam. Since then he has designed the costumes for, among others 'Malina' and 'Titus Andornicus' at Bühnen Bern, 'Das Rheingold' at Theater Bielefeld, 'Der Barbier von Sevilla', 'Sehnsucht' and 'Nixon in China' at Theater Dortmund, 'Ariadne auf Naxos' at Nationaltheater Weimar, 'Die Zauberflöte' and Sondheim's 'Anyone can Whistle' at the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater, 'Sweeney Todd' at the Staatsoperette Dresden and 'Tristan und Isolde' at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau. Work has also taken him to the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe in 2018 ('Radikale Akte'), to the Volksoper Wien in 2019 ('Powder her Face'), to the Athens Festival in 2021 ('Euripides by Euripides') and to the Theater an der Wien in 2024 for Salieri's 'Kublai Khan'.
