A Spanish operetta
Madrid in turmoil. The barber Lamparilla has nothing to do with politics. But he is in love and becomes embroiled in an intrigue that reaches all the way to the Spanish royal family. A merry game of cat-and-mouse with the authorities begins, fuelled by irresistible Spanish dance rhythms. In the classic zarzuela, which has yet to be discovered in German-speaking countries, social and political tensions are unleashed in folklore and humour. Christof Loy dedicates himself to the most famous work of this genre and brings it to the stage with a Spanish cast and in the original language.
A production with the Teatro de la Zarzuela, Madrid, and the Festival de Teatro Lírico Español de Oviedo
To get you in the mood, a Zarzuela-Gala will take place on the main stage on 13 September.
