An exuberant game with the potential to become addictive
Money, gambling addiction and obsessive love rule in the town of Roulettenburg. Accompanied by the eternal illusion: «Tomorrow, tomorrow, it’ll be over!» The rich aunt brings hope. But while everyone is waiting for news of her death, she turns up alive and well and gambles away the last rouble. ‹The Gambler› is a frenzied masterpiece of literature. It emerged from a fiendish agreement between Dostoevsky and his publisher: Either he delivered the novel within a few weeks or the rights to all his previous and future novels would be transferred to the publisher. The director Pınar Karabulut is also a master of living on the edge. She examines the classics of world literature for their pop-cultural suitability and confronts them with queerness.
