Five pieces by Marco Goecke
Five creations – one unmistakable choreographic signature. The intimate solo ‹Tué› connects three extraordinary women to the music of chansonnière Barbara. ‹Midnight Raga› transports the audience to a mystical Indian night, and ‹Äffi›, a repertoire classic, made Goecke's style instantly famous in 2005. Set to music by Nina Simone and Lady Gaga, ‹All Long Dem Day› and ‹Nachtmerrie› create powerful scenes about human relationships, separations, and loss. Sometimes dark and dramatic, sometimes lighter and lyrical, dark matter manifests itself in a brilliant way.

A ‹Rendez-vous› six weeks before the premiere? That's possible with the ‹Dark Matter› format! Over the past 25 years, Marco Goecke has repeatedly created striking short pieces that are performed worldwide at galas or in multi-part ballet programs and are also an essential part of the Ballet Basel repertoire. Ludovico Pace, who in addition to his position as managing director also acts as choreographic assistant, knows Marco Goecke's works inside out and thus rehearses most of the evening's striking short pieces with the ensemble throughout the season. This makes him the perfect person to talk to for all the background information on this exciting program, which is set to continue in the coming years.
However, the ‹Rendez-vous› on February 2, 2026, in the foyer of Theater Basel will not only be about talking about dance, but also about demonstrating the special features of Goecke's movement language through a choreographic rehearsal of the duet ‹Nachtmerrie›. Experience an exclusive insight into the ‹Dark Matter› program.
Ballett Basel invites you to visit its training centre for an insight into the daily work of the ballet company: take a look over the shoulders of the Ballett Theater Basel dancers during their daily training and get a close-up view of the «athletic» start to the day. This not only serves to warm up the muscles for the following day's rehearsals, but is also essential for maintaining fitness, technical aptitude and preventing injuries. It also gives an impression of how much discipline, constant work, passion and joy there is in dance.
