Since the 19/20 season, Theater Basel has been proud to display the ‹Kultur Inklusiv› label from Pro Infirmis.
Selected performances and the preceding introduction will be translated into sign language. The dates of translated performances will be announced on our website.
Since the 20/21 season, all opera performances on the Grosse Bühne and in the Schauspielhaus will be surtitled in German and English. All theatre performances on the Grosse Bühne and in the Schauspielhaus will be surtitled in English.
All our stages are equipped with FM (radio) equipment. Headsets (with or without an induction loop) can be adjusted individually. They can be hired free of charge at our information desks in the foyers.
Selected performances are accompanied by live audio descriptions. The live audio description can be heard when wearing a headset. It provides precise descriptions of the action on stage as well as the actual stage and costume design.
Theaterführungen für Blinde und Guided theatre tours for blind and visually impaired people during which the theatre can be experienced through touch. For groups of up to 12 people (incl. a companion).

Guide dogs are allowed inside the theatre. They can wait at the cloakroom or be taken into the performance. We will gladly reserve a suitable place for you.
An offer from Theater Basel and Kaserne Basel
Together we will visit two selected productions, one at each house. In addition to audio description and exciting haptic introductions, the aim is to gain deeper acess to the content of the productions.

People with cognitive impairments can watch the work of our ballet company close up and experience selected ballet performances during training and rehearsal visits.
Feel like dancing yourself right away? Then we will be happy to come to you with a workshop format tailored to the target group!
Everything is a bit different during relaxed performances: The lights in the auditoriom are dimmed. The audience is allowed to get up and move around. Making noises is fine as well. The doors stay open and there are couches in the auditorium. Info sheets in plain language are distributed.
With this performance format, we want to create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors who live with impulses that can't be controlled, such as verbal or physical spasms. Visitors who might not feel comfortable visiting the usual performances and who thus remain excluded from a «conventional» theatre environment. This includes persons on the autistic spectrum, persons with Tourette's, persons with chronical pain and many more.

Seeing as a love of music does not end with the onset of dementia, we will be giving a one-hour concert with well-known opera melodies. Afterwards, there will be coffee and cakes.
