A WALK THROUGH THE BEYOND by Thom Luz
WORLD PREMIERE

Altersempfehlung: Ab 14 Jahren

In public discussions, the writer Stephen King likes telling the story of how during the preparations for filming his novel ‘The Shining’ he was woken in the middle of the night by a telephone which would not stop ringing.  Grumpily and slightly hungover he picked up the receiver and heard Stanley Kubrick’s voice at the other end saying: “Ghost stories are wonderfully optimistic, don’t you think?” King didn’t understand and asked what he meant, to which the voice replied: “If there are such things as ghosts, then that means we really do have an immortal soul that lives for ever after we’re dead. And that has to make us optimistic.”  King cleared his throat and replied: “And what about hell?” At the other end of the phone there was a long silence. And finally Stanley Kubrick’s voice again, rather quieter: “I don’t believe in hell.”

This gentle and defiant anti-credo marks resident director Thom Luz’s starting point for a ramble into the imagined world beyond. Following his excursion last year into the world of the soul with ‘LSD – mein Sorgenkind’, he will now enter the imaginary cosmos of the first part of Dante Alighieri’s ‘Divine Comedy’. In doing so he believes that roundabout routes help you get to know somewhere and that many journeys which fail to arrive at their intended destinations manage to get there nevertheless. Perhaps you might meet an old friend on this walk through Luz’s hell or stop for a cathartic rest at the foot of a small mountain. In any event, it’s worth remembering Winston Churchill’s advice: “If you’re going through hell, keep going.”
