Sharon Eyal/Bryan Arias
«SALT WOMB» (Schweizer Erstaufführung); Uraufführung von Bryan Arias. Altersempfehlung: ab 12 Jahren
The piece «Salt Womb» by choreographer Sharon Eyal, seen here in Switzerland for the first time, is a constant repetition of recurrent actions with slight modifications each time. Accompanied by stamping drums, techno beats and salsa rhythms, the entire ensemble moves like a machine from which individual dancers will temporarily free themselves without losing their connection with the group.
Sharon Eyal has worked together with the multimedia event designer Gai Behar since 2006. They now tour the world with the productions of their own company L-E-V and creations they have made for other dance ensembles. Their regular team also includes the musician and DJ Ori Lichtik, whose sound compositions play a key creative role in Eyal’s dance pieces. The choreographer was born in Jerusalem, but now she lives and works in Tel Aviv. She spent twenty years dancing and choreographing for the famous Israeli Batsheva Dance Company under Ohad Naharin.
Bryan Arias is regarded as one of the most promising choreographers emerging in contemporary dance. He came to the attention of Basel audiences with his piece «this is everything» as part of the evening «Shechter / Arias» which had its world premiere in the 2017 / 2018 season at Theater Basel. This season Arias will again choreograph a new creation for the ballet ensemble on the stage of the Schauspielhaus. The American artist is well known for this sensitive and perceptive way of working. His poetic pieces cast a spell over their audiences with a very particular flow of movement.
Bryan Arias comes from Puerto Rico, lives in New York and Basel and now works all over the world. As a dancer he had several engagements with international companies, most recently with Crystal Pite’s company Kidd Pivot. He has been awarded numerous prized and has also worked for the Juilliard School in New York, Hubbard Street Dance and Nederlands Dans Theater.
